Description

The 2024 Beowulf & Grendel 1oz silver coin, part of The Royal Mint's Myths and Legends series, depicts Beowulf locked in combat with the monster Grendel, drawn from the epic Anglo-Saxon poem. In the poem Beowulf, emerges as a hero of the Geats, aiding King Hrothgar against Grendel's assaults on Heorot. After vanquishing Grendel and his vengeful mother, Beowulf returns home to Geatland as its king. Fifty years later, he defeats a dragon but succumbs to his injuries.

The coin, struck to The Royal Mint's bullion standard with one troy ounce of 999 fine silver, holds a £2 face value, making it exempt from Capital Gains Tax for UK residents.
