2024 The Tudor Dragon - Tudor Beasts 1/4oz Gold Coin

The 2024 Tudor Dragon 1/4oz gold coin, part of the Royal Tudor Beasts Collection from The Royal Mint, is the fifth release in a series commemorating the ten 'Beasts' statues at Hampton Court, symbolizing the families of the King's line. Designed by David Lawrence, the reverse side features the Tudor Dragon, adopted by Henry Tudor during preparations for the Battle of Bosworth Field, serving both as a visually appealing design and as a security measure against counterfeiting. The obverse side bears the official coinage portrait of King Charles III by Martin Jennings.

The Tudor dragon, symbolising power, strength, and authority, traces its origins to Welsh mythology, where dragons were revered as formidable creatures. The Tudors, with Welsh ancestry, embraced the dragon to highlight their connection to Wales and assert their rule. The coin contains 0.25 troy ounces of pure 999.9 gold and is legal tender valued at £25, exempt from Capital Gains Tax. Collectors are advised to secure their coins promptly, as production will cease upon the release of the next coin in the series.
