Silver Sierra Leone Egyptian Gods: Ra (2023)

To commemorate the 250th birth anniversary of British Egyptologist Dr. Thomas Young, the Pobjoy Mint has released a fascinating series of coins featuring Egyptian gods, with third coin of the series featuring the sun-god Ra.

Ra is an ancient Egyptian sun god, symbolizing life and creation. Depicted as a falcon-headed man with a sun disk headdress, he governed the sun's journey across the sky. Ra was associated with kingship, believed to be the creator of the world, and possessed the power to grant life and blessings. His worship was widespread and enduring in ancient Egypt, making him a central figure in their religious beliefs.

The 2023 Ra 1oz silver coin contains one troy ounce of 999 fine silver and has a limited mintage of just 5,000 coins. On the reverse, Ra is depicted with his name written in hieroglyphs. The background features typical Egyptian decorations and hieroglyphics, along with a 'P' privy mark exclusive to Pobjoy Mint coins. On the obverse side, the coin displays the coat of arms of the Republic of Sierra Leone.
